The East Coast Greenway project is an attempt to create a traffic-free pathway from Maine to Florida for cyclists and pedestrians. The idea is not to have just a single path, but one that branches to connect all major cities (as shown below in the RI map, with a fork in the road for either Boston or Hartford). It's 21% complete.
