I've been getting my music fill from blogotheque's Take Away Shows. Here is their run-down:

Every week, we invite an artist or a band to play in the streets, in a bar, a park, or even in a flat or in an elevator, and we film the whole session. Of course, what makes the beauty of it is all the little incidents, hesitations, and crazy stuff happening unexpectingly. Besides, we do not edit the videos so they look perfectly flawless, instead we keep the raw sound of the surroundings. Our goal is to try and capture instants, film the music just like it happens, without preparation, without tricks. Spontaneity is the keyword.

My personal favorite is Fleet Foxes performing Sun Giant/Blue Ridge Mountains.

A Short: Full Employment

With the way the economy is headed who wouldn't take an entry level job as zombie hunter. A short film called Full Employment, directed by Thomas Oberlies and Matthias Vogel, two scientists from Germany, explores the future of employment with a twist. I wish I could find a full length version of the film, but check out the trailer, in German, no subtitles, but you'll get the point.

Saw a short film called, um, Short Term 12, directed by Destin Daniel Cretton. It just won Best Narrative Short at SIFF. The film's log line is : It's about kids and the adults who hit them. Honest, funny, and sad. An array of emotions all with 20 minutes or so.

The Blindness of the Woods, a short film directed by Martin Jalfen and Javier Lourenco, is an erotic tale of a blind woman, a lumber jack, and a bear whose yarn entangle in the cold Swedish night. I saw this film at shortfest this week at SIFF. Hilariously wrong, will never look at yarn the same way again.

I saw the The Archivist, by James Lees this weekend at the Seattle International Film Festival's Shortfest. The Archivist is about one man's obesssion to perserve love forever. The inspiration for the film came from working at a butcher's shop.

I was inspired at the library the other day, When I found out a lot of Vermont libraries rent out more than just books, they are renting gardening equipment, tents, portable stoves, snow shoes, fishing rods, etc. Which I think makes a lot of sense, and kept me thinking what items, we store all the time and use only one and twice a year. Does everyone, use there bike everyday, what if you let other people use it when you were not?

Hi Everyone,

It's me Mikie, I apologize for my absence but i've had shit to do. To continue Jeremy's unsuccessful experiment in what where all doing I decided i'll talk about myself for a little while because my boss is gone. Have you ever wondered how long it would take you to sell out completely? Well I havn't, becasue I already know! 7 months... it takes 7 months. So i'm living in LA reasonably close to the ocean and i'm developing a retail brand for a company that does promotional products. It's pretty boring as hell, however as the only designer I get total control so in that sense it's pretty sweet. We've got a website that's gonna be up in the near future.. i'll be sure and let everyone know via this blog.

Katie: I'm so glad I roped someone into the conversation. I thought Justin's posts were gonna push me out of the top place and no one else would read it if they had to scroll down.

It's really nice to hear what you have been up to and that you are well. I'm sorry you didn't get the first job you were hoping for. that sucks. But at least you have Health (insurance), Vacation, Income, and you seem to be enjoying yourself.
I'm afraid I can't say that I HATE my job, exactly, but I definitely struggle with it some days. Be glad you have a window next to your desk at the very least...(i've spent the past couple days power-washing silkscreens in sub-freezing temperatures so maybe that will cheer you up at work.)

hey Jeremy! lovely hearing about your adventures. i am doing well.

although i am honestly damn near ashamed to tell you of my life since SU. i too do not have an ID job.
after school...i had a "close call" it was pretty exciting when the VP of design and development Janet Vallino, of Skip Hop (a children's company in NYC) called me for a phone interview. she told me that she loved my portfolio, my research background and my internship experience, as she "really admires Eleven's work". we talked for nearly 2 hours we even talked about her flying me out to NYC to meet in person. i nearly shit my pants i was so nervous, but i pulled it off..she told me she would call me in two days as she had a few more people to meet with.
she never called...i called her, they chose someone else...someone with 7 years experience. she told me i was their "second choice". i cried for 5 days. i sat on the sofa and watched more seasons of the OC than any human ever should. i watched lifetime original movies which only made me cry more.

then i joined a temp agency in Boston.PSG (professional staffing group) they found me a job

the first place they sent me was a company called Specialty Catalog Corporation.
yup...you guessed it they design catalog.

but i was not assigned to your average Victoria's secret catalog...nope i was assigned to Paula Young. you probably don't know what Paula young is...i didn't either...so I'll tell you

i cried laughing! then cried thinking about people with cancer who actually needed said wigs.
then i just did my damn job
i was at SPC for a week my job was to take a word document with the wig descriptions and copy and paste them into QUARK (a program like InDesign) and be sure that all the style sheets were attached.

after that...hard to follow i know i FOUND my current job.

i am working at what might be the lamest company ever, i am doing graphic design although boring (logo, envelopes, letter head, and monthly newsletter for the LIFT wellness program..yep it's a falls prevention program for people aged 65 and older. furthermore, since my graphic design career is less than stressful i also serve a secretary of sorts for my company LIFEplans. with a name like that i am sure you are all cringing but its actually not half bad. i miss the design world and creative people dreadfully but i love my boss and her boss and i have managed to make a few good friends here. in addition the benefits make it all worth while since i actually have a steady income and free health and dental insurance. i even have a freaking life insurance policy....(don't get any ideas of off-ing me, as it all goes to my mom...Mom don't YOU get ideas either) and FOUR WEEKS PAID VACATION!! so stop laughing at my lame job! jk feel free to laugh i do everyday i come into the office. so here i sit right now typing on this blog at my window cubicle facing the snowy parking lot in Waltham, ma missing my good old classmates at CUSE, dreaming of how much more snow we would have if we were still there and if Heckman is still wearing black turtlenecks and scrunchies. i love and miss you all..please tell me i am not the only one who hates their job!!

I think this blog is an awesome idea, though I have yet to contribute to it, and I have found some of the posts interesting and worthwhile. But I think this whole space might be a bit more personal.

I can find cool things online on reddit (token: INTERFACES) and a handful of other places online without finding out anything about the poster. I want everyone's cool webpages but, more importantly, I want to know about the people I haven't seen or spoken to since May.

So I'mma start it off and we'll see how that goes...
During the painfully glorious final days of SU(ID) I had to decide between returning to my Dad's home to complete a portoflio and look for a job OR move to Delaware Beaches to help one of my oldest friends run a Graphic Design & Screenprinting operation he "accidentally" started and found was growing out of control. Needless to say, I did not move back home and I have been living in and around Dewey Beach, DE since.

It's had its ups and downs. I enjoy the work, though it's not ID. We have had plenty of work to keep ourselves busy, though we haven't always been able to pay ourselves for all of it. I have learned so much about running a business and dealing with ACTUAL clients but I have spent more time doing that than actually designing (probably. Sometimes I exaggerate...) The summer was one big party that I mostly had to restrain myself from joining for lack of money and a desire to not be drunk by noon seven days a week (what can I say? I shot for the stars after SU).
Anyway, despite it all, I can't say that I regret the decision to come down here. Now I am ready to get out of here (did anyone else know how dull vacation towns are off-season?) and have been updating/finishing the portfolio that Heckman never got a finished copy of. I'm trying to get me a real job WHICH I am aware is a difficult thing to do right now (anyone has one they can hand me, no strings attached, I'll be pretty thrilled) but even a low-level position would keep me more sane than working two jobs and still not knowing how much money is coming in each week.
I have been trying to keep up drawing. I have to admit, though, I have drawn very few inanimate objects (read: products) in the past eight months, but I remembered that creative drawing was why I picked up a pencil in the first place.
There is, of course, lots more that I could say (and would like to say if anyone wants to hear) but I'll leave it at that for now in hopes that someone will actually read this and feel compelled/inspired/irritated enough to write their own little eight-month story...

(also, Ashley, you might be please to know that, since Christmas, I have developed a severe espresso addiction and if you're ever in DE, I'll brew you up a nice quad-shot)
